Their story
Mr. Peter Uche Anyanwu was born on November 22nd, 1957 in Mushin Lagos, Nigeria, to the family of late Mr. Patrick Azoro Anyanwu and Late.Mrs. Sussana Anyanwu. He was born a twin and was the first surviving child of the family.
He spent his early years surrounded by a close-knit extended family that valued education, discipline, and perseverance.
He started his primary school education in Mushin, Lagos, but completed it in the East when the family relocated as a result of the Nigerian Civil War. In 1972, he gained admission into the Holy Ghost College, Owerri and finished with an excellent performance. After completing his secondary education, he proceeded with his Higher School Certificate and finished in 1978. He had a flair for quantitative subjects for which he became the best in mathematics and other technical subjects. After completing his secondary education, he gained admission into the University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics in 1983. After his Bachelor’s degree, he proceeded to do his Masters degree in Industrial Relations & Personnel Management in 1986 from the University of Lagos. His education provided the foundation for a career that spanned more than three decades. He placed so much premium on education and academics.
He started his professional career as a Sales Specialist in 1987, with NCR Nigeria Plc, one of the first indigenous computer firms, with its head office in Dayton, Ohio, USA. He rose to a Product Marketing Manager in 1995. In 1996, he was redeployed to Business Machines Limited (BML), a subsidiary of NCR Nigeria Limited as a Marketing Manager.
He married in 1992, and together, he and his wife built a family blessed with five children. Becoming a father marked an important chapter in his life. His family remained a central part of his story, and over the years he took satisfaction in watching his children grow into adulthood who pursued their own aspirations.
Mr. Peter Anyanwu had a lifelong appreciation for knowledge, choosing to pursue two more degrees after his first Bachelor's degree, a Master's from the University of Lagos and an MBA from National Open University, Nigeria. He enjoyed reading, striking small talk with anyone, listening to music on quiet evenings, and watching the news. Those who knew him can attest to the fact that he enjoyed discussing current affairs and sharing stories from his younger days.
He was a devoted Catholic, a Parishioner and a member of the Church Council and JDPC of St. Cyril’s Catholic Church, where he worshipped faithfully for many years. His faith offered him moments of reflection and hope throughout different seasons of his life.
Like every individual, Mr.Peter Anyanwu’s life was one of many experiences, relationships, successes, and challenges. He encountered victories that brought joy and faced hardships that tested his resolve. Those whose lives intersected with his carry different memories and perspectives, each contributing to the larger story of the man he was.
His journey serves as a reminder that every life leaves an imprint on the people it touches. Whether through shared conversations, lessons learned, moments of laughter, or life's difficult experiences, his presence became part of the lives of his family, friends, neighbours, and colleagues.
Mr.Peter Anyanwu passed away in March following a cardiac arrest. His passing leaves behind family members, friends, and loved ones who gather not only to mourn his loss but also to reflect upon a life that spanned many decades and witnessed significant moments of personal and national history.
He is survived by his wife, children, siblings, nieces, nephews; and many relatives and friends who would remember him in their own unique ways.
As we celebrate his life, we are reminded of the importance of family, resilience, forgiveness, and the enduring hope that each generation can build upon the lessons of those who came before. We give thanks to God for the years he lived and pray that those who mourn his passing may find comfort, strength, and peace in the memories they choose to carry forward.
